Checking Available Languages

View currently supported languages with these commands:

bash
npx lingo.dev@latest show locale sources # View available source languages
npx lingo.dev@latest show locale targets # View available target languages

To find a specific language, use grep to filter results:

bash
npx lingo.dev@latest show locale sources | grep fr # Find French in source languages

Source vs. Target Languages

We distinguish between source and target languages for two important reasons:

  1. Quality Assurance: Languages are only released when they meet our rigorous quality standards
  2. Optimization: Some languages perform better as sources or targets due to their linguistic structure, available training data, and AI model capabilities

Most languages are available as both sources and targets, but some may be limited to one role to ensure optimal translation quality.

Language Support Roadmap

Our language catalog continues to expand based on user needs and quality improvements. If you require a language that isn't currently supported, please contact us—we prioritize new language additions based on user demand.

This approach ensures you receive the highest quality translations while we continuously enhance our language support.
